“Is it like returning to a place that you’ve already been?” quips vocalist Steven Walker on track four of Fake Hippy’s latest release. The second EP from the band in less than a year, “Old News” pack a similar sounding punch to its predecessor “Roots” with a slightly more upbeat approach. First track “Like It’s Me” is a solid opener, with a catchy swing that immediately sticks in the mind. The Ep happily bounces along in an uptempo fashion until the last track, ‘White Feathers”, a slower jam with strong harmonies and a complex, snug drum beat.
With a running time just short of 20 minutes, ‘Old News’ is a brief taste of what Fake Hippy have to offer, heartfelt lyrics over jangly guitar riffs. Neither of the two EP’s released this year appear to have any weak tracks, rather tunes you’ll find yourself humming on the way home.
“Old news” is a great place to start with the band if you’re new to them. And with the band reported to once again be entering the studio this summer at Edinburgh’s Banana Row, it doesn't seem like you’ll have to wait too long for another instalment of Fake Hippy goodness.
